share. learn. thrive!

I just had an ACL reconstruction with trochlear microfracture and am facing 4-6 week of non-weight bearing life on crutches. I am (was) extremely active and was pretty focused on a raw lifestyle. I've had a hard time in the post op period (5 days) with pain meds and food. Any suggestions on easily digestible, high nutrient, healing foods for the body and mind?"

What a challenge Becky! I hope that you are feeling as good as you can right now! Do you like green smoothies? They are highly nutritious and easily digestible. I think that you might find them to be really supportive in your healing, both for body and mind. I have found raw food, especially including green smoothies, to be so incredibly healing.

Wishing you the best for a quick, comfortable recovery!
Becky,
Bummer about your injury.
Body: Check out the green smoothie I posted in the recipes group. I think it's an awesome one in terms of taste, flexibility (hot, cold, add stuff, etc), digestibility, and nutrition.
Mind: I've recently read "Born to Run", "Happiness Project", and "Play to Win." Happiness and Play will help move your mind into the big picture. Born is just fun!

I'm one week into my recovery for a meniscus tear so I know how rough it is. Hang in there!

Good luck!
Keith
Stopping by to wish you "get well soon". Sorry to hear about your pain. I can feel it...ouch! When you're feeling "junk" come visit and you'll definitely feel better. God Bless.
mind:
* Read! I just finished The Power of One and am on to Yann Martel's Beatrice And Virgil. After that, it's Breath by Tim Winton - about surfing, highly recommended to me by friends
* Learn something new that you've been meaning to get to....
* Laugh! watch funny movies, suround yourself with good friends etc.
* If you can't be physical, take the time to visualize the activities - proven to work!

body:
* get a good quality massage that stretches you out, might as well release those tough spots while you are resting
* My favorite treat is coconut water - when I crack open a coconut and drink it, it's like an elixer for my body and soul - I feel like I start vibrating on a higher level!
* raw greens (smoothies), MSM powder

healing wishes to you!
Thanks Keith,
It looks as though you are an athlete as well. I plan on getting those books you recommended. I just watched the Long Green Line about Joe Newton and the York High School XC team. It's on HULU.com you should watch it if you can. Very inspiring. My Adventure Racing team is racing tomorrow without me. It sucks but I have to look at the Big Picture.
