Sensitivity/intolerance to algae e.g. Chlorella and Spirulina

Hello there

Does anybody has a sensitivity to Chlorella or Spirulina which presents itself with tightness in the chest, weakness and some difficulties with breathing?  I get it after taking WFHO or pure organic chlorella or spirulina on its own.

Can anybody help, please?

Thanks

Hello Paul,

It is very important while taking chlorella to consume more water than usual. Since chlorella is very detoxifying, your body needs water to flush out all the toxins. If not enough water is consumed, flu like symptoms can occur due to the toxins that are not able to be released.

We recommend speaking with your health care professional to determine if chlorella products would be right for you.

Hi Alana

Thanks so much for your reply.  You might be right with the amount of water to drink.  The interesting thing is that sometimes I don't get those reactions.  I will try it again as it regulates my digestion beautifully.

The GPs I know usually have very little or no education in nutrition and can imagine they would try to stop me taking not only the chlorella but the whole vegan diet.

Best,

Paul

Thanks Erin.  Hope in your case it goes well.

The evidence I have suggests that Alana is right---not enough water consumption.  When I take Nascent Iodine (also cleansing the body) I get similar symptoms but to a lesser degree and as far as I can tell I did not drink enough water.

Another very important thing for me was that I was deficient in vitamin D.  In such a case anything can go wrong regarding the immune, cardiovascular, metabolic and nervous systems .  It is very very easy for any physician to say that somebody is sensitive to something.  But when asked for reasons of such sensitivities they will be quiet!  It is incredibly difficult to diagnose causes for most reactions and requires a lot of honesty, patience and humility---most physicians simply do not have it.

I have a question about the vitamin D....I also have low vitamin D and my doctor said it was my "normal" as she did blood work testing my para-thyroid.  I have been taking 6000 iu's per day for six month.  I have been feeling great taking chlorella, and the WFHO--but I know my immune system is compromised since I tend to get any virus that comes around--also have Hashimoto's syndrome (hypothyroid).

Question:  How the heck did you get your vitamin D levels up?  I did not get any answers from my physician.  I personally think they are just beginning to understand the "D" stuff.

Hi Sharon

First I tried cod liver oil but could not get enough vitamin D from it.  I think the best way of getting the proper levels of vitamin D is by proper sun exposure.  Since I realised that in autumn, the only choice was using sun beds.  However I started with just 2-3 mins 2-3 times a week.  Had to be very careful as my immune system was down and my skin was pale.  After about 2 months my skin got a little bit darker and felt much better.  Then I started a bit longer times.  Now in spring whenever there is a warm and sunny day I'm OUT with my shorts and do NOT put anything on my skin (apart form a natural lotion occasionally).

I know that dermatologist would call me a mad man but I was getting mad without the sun in my life.  Further, I had to ensure that my diet was full of antioxidants, such as: raw greens, acai, blueberries, camu camu, and many other fruits.  And of course chlorella and spirulina but these were a bit too powerful at that stage.

So lots of sunshine and a proper diet full of veg and fruits.  This is my answer to my problems with vitamin D.

BTW, Dr. Holick says in his book that "there is no correlation between vitamin D deficiency and hypothyroidism. Vitamin D deficiency is so common that often patients with hypothyroidism are also vitamin D deficient.  All patients, including hypothyroid patients, should be treated for their vitamin D deficiency..."

Hope your immune system improves soon!

Best, Paul.

Hi, i'm drinking water and taking one tablet of chlorella.....

after 5 minutes everything from my stomage  is vomitting out until the last drop of water .....

My body doesn't accept chlorella anyway .

What should be the cause of it ?
