Fresh Fettucini Puttanesca (made with Vega Antioxidant EFA Oil)

Oh, my poor parents. I say this for many reasons, but in this case it is with respect to my impassioned culinary endeavors I pursued as a kid.

Growing up, each weekend the process was the same: first I would scour my collection of cookbooks and, without fail, choose the most complicated one I could possibly find to tackle. Next came the well-practiced whiny parental nag (pout inclusion dependent upon circumstance) to schlep me to a… Continue

My Vegan Journey June 6

It's now been four days since I made my promise not to eat anything that walks, crawls, flies or swims. I'm amazingly surprised at how easy it's been and how quickly I noticed the effects on my body. I keep wondering if this is going to be a passing phase or has something really clicked in my brain. I really really hope it's the later.

I have always been an in between meal grazer, the evening being the worst time for me. I have always been a little smug that I didn't gain weight from… Continue

June 4

Two days ago my daughter called and said "quick put up this website and watch this video." She's not one to be argued with! The website was

I began to watch the trailer and by the time I got to the screaming elephant I was done, horrified, and couldn't watch anymore. As I was driving home I remember screaming out loud in the car, awful words and praying that there was a special hell for the people I saw doing unspeakable things to defenseless animals. Within a few… Continue

Vegan Challenge Finale: Let's See The Results

EVERYONE should try going vegan for at least 30 days.

This is the advice from the nine Sequel staffers who participated in our month-long vegan challenge during the month of May. No butter on their toast, eggs in their breakfast, or steak on the BBQ. Instead they spent the month chopping veggies, testing new recipes, reading labels, and opening their minds to… Continue

Goal Achievement - Research Results From the Australian Government

Goal Achievement - From the Australian Government!

One of the central issues identified when looking at the difference between people who achieve their goals and people who do not, is the way they talk to themself throughout the process.

What stops us from achieving goals?

When we are thinking about starting something new, we start to consider the impact of the goal achievement process on us. That is, the energy and effort we will… Continue

My 1st Interview

I had my first ever athlete interview yesterday. It was pretty darn intense. It was for the T. Colin Campbell Foundation. T. Campbell is who wrote the book The China Study. According to the women conducting the interview, there are not too many ‘super’ athletes that eat a hardcore plant-based diet. I am a super athlete…exciting and also, a breath of fresh air---please, keep the compliments coming. I enjoyed that mental boost.

As for the interview itself, it was a 30-minute over the… Continue

Return and Recovery

I spent last week out at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC, jumping my horse Grafton. Well it was one heck on a week, and my sore body is happy to be back, but I'd rather be out showing than sitting in the office! The show runs for a second week, but unfortunately, my wallet, nor my employer could handle the strain of another week (and I doubt my horse or my back could either!). I went into the show much less prepared than I would wish. A VERY badly burned hand and a ruptured ovarian… Continue

Freshly Minted

I recently replanted my annual herb pot with an ambitious variety of green edibles. The future was bright: fresh, pungent natural flavorings happily flourishing outside my back door, romantically waiting for their next role in an illustrious whim of kitchen-oriented inspiration.

At least that was the plan.

The slugs ate the dill, the oregano never grew, the cilantro disappeared (in all seriousness… where did it go?), and we’ll just… Continue

Racing Empty

I wish I could write about how I ended up on the podium with the perfect amount of clean alkaline food. It was clean and alkaline but I ate about 1/8 of what I needed. 2 clementines, 2 gu flasks and 4 raw cookies. I had quite a few mechanical issues which led me to forgetting about food. Silly mistake but I still did well and what a huge learning experience. I learned about my bike that day and about keeping my focus on the race and not on what was slowing me down!

I should take a… Continue
